Choose the Right Rice

First things first — pick quality rice. At Sunita Rice Mill, we carefully process our non-basmati rice to preserve its natural aroma and texture. From everyday Sona Masoori to the hearty Swarna variety, our rice ensures you get the best taste in every bite.

Wash and Soak

  1. Measure the amount of rice you need.

  2. Rinse it in cold water 2–3 times until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the grains from clumping together.

  3. Soak the rice for 20–30 minutes. Soaking helps the grains cook evenly and become softer.

Use the Right Water Ratio

For non-basmati rice, the ideal rice-to-water ratio is usually 1:2 — one cup of rice to two cups of water. However, this can vary slightly depending on the variety and your preference for texture.

Cook on a Medium Flame

  1. Bring the water and rice to a boil over medium heat.

  2. Once it starts boiling, cover the pot with a tight lid and reduce the flame to low.

  3. Let it simmer for 10–15 minutes. Avoid lifting the lid too often — this keeps the steam inside.

Let It Rest

Once cooked, turn off the heat and let the rice rest (covered) for another 5–10 minutes. This step lets the grains firm up and makes fluffing easier.

Fluff and Serve

Use a fork to gently fluff the rice. Your perfectly cooked non-basmati rice is ready to be served with curries, dals, or your favourite side dishes.
